Tom Shafer, NPP-BC

About Tom Shafer

Tom Shafer joined the CAPS Psychiatry team in August, 2017.  He previously worked in college counseling centers, child/adolescent outpatient treatment clinics, and school-based health centers.  From 1988 to 2010, he held a variety of international positions specializing in children and adolescents, including emergency mental health and psychosocial programming, child protection, and care of especially vulnerable children. 

Degree & License

Tom has two master’s degrees and is a board certified Family Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (Child/Adolescent/Young Adult).

He offers psychiatry services at CAPS.

Clinical Interests

Psychoanalytic psychotherapy, neuropsychoanalysis, mood and anxiety issues, ADHD, trauma, and the gifted child.
