Dental Information & Resources
Campus Health does not provide dental care. However, there are several ways to access dental services out in the community.
- If you have your own medical insurance, you can check with your policy to see if a dental benefit is included.
- For students enrolled in the UA Student Health Insurance Plan, the medical policy offers limited dental coverage.
- A separate dental and vision discount program is available through Careington. This is not a dental insurance policy.
- Individual private dental insurance may be available through standalone commercial dental carriers.
- Finally, dental services may be accessed through a fee-for-service basis from providers in the community.
The Student Health Insurance Plan is a major medical policy and offers coverage nationwide. The plan is administered by UnitedHealthcare StudentResources (UHCSR). A referral from Campus Health is not required for the dental benefits listed below. The student medical plan offers the following two dental benefits:
- Accidental Injury to Sound, Natural Teeth
(breaking a tooth while eating is not covered) - Removal of Impacted Wisdom Teeth
(includes exam and x-rays) - The two dental benefits listed above are subject to the policy's $250 medical deductible followed by 20% coinsurance (up to the $1,500 out-of-pocket maximum for in-network eligible services).
- Note: Other dental services, such as routine dental care, are not covered by this medical policy and would be an out-of-pocket expense.

Pediatric Dental Services Benefit: Limited to Insured Persons under the age of 19. Benefits under this endorsement terminate on the earlier of: 1) last day of the month the Insured Person reaches the age of 19; or 2) the date the Insured Person’s coverage under the Policy terminates. - UnitedHealthcare mails dental identification cards to Pediatric Dental Members. If you did not receive your pediatric dental ID card, please contact UHC Dental at 1-877-816-3596. Pediatric Dental Members should visit myuhc.com to find a participating network dentist (Dental Options PPO Plan). Note: Your pediatric dental ID card is separate from your UHCSR medical ID card.
UnitedHealthcare has partnered with Careington to provide students with a voluntary dental and vision discount program. The Careington Dental & Vision Discount Program provides savings between 20% to 50% on most dental procedures and 20% to 40% savings on eye care and eyewear. Please note that this program is not an insurance policy.
- Enrollment in the discount program is available year-round. Enrollment is available to all registered University of Arizona students, as well as Post-Doctoral Fellows, J1 Visiting Scholars, and J1 Student Interns affiliated with UArizona.
- The cost of this program is $20 for an annual membership. During enrollment, you will be given the option to choose the effective date. You can choose to start your membership on the first day of the current month or the first day of the next month.
Once enrolled, you will receive a welcome email from Careington with program materials. This includes a Careington ID card, information on the program benefits, how to find dental/vision providers, and a sample discount schedule. The email is generated within a few hours after you enroll.
- Browse the Careington Provider Directory: A list of participating providers can also be requested by contacting Careington customer service. Please call 1-844-712-1978 or email memberservices@careington.com. Note: This program is a point-of-service discount program. It is the member’s responsibility to ensure they are seeing participating providers.
You can get dental coverage by enrolling directly with a commercial stand-alone dental insurance plan. Dental plans may also be available on the Marketplace. Here is an example of a pre-paid dental plan option that is available in Arizona: Employers Dental Services (EDS).
Dental services are often available at a fee-for-service rate at most dental offices. Dental offices may run specials or discounts, so please inquire with individual dental practices directly.

Vision Information & Resources
Campus Health does not provide routine vision care. However, there are several ways to access routine vision services out in the community.
- If you have your own medical insurance, you can check with your policy to see if a routine vision benefit is included.
- For students enrolled in the UA Student Health Insurance Plan, the medical policy offers limited routine vision coverage.
- A separate dental and vision discount program is available through Careington. This is not a vision insurance policy.
- Individual private vision insurance may be available through commercial standalone vision carriers.
- Finally, routine vision services may be accessed through a fee-for-service basis from providers in the community.
The Student Health Insurance Plan includes a benefit for an annual Adult Routine Vision Exam. Benefits include refraction and glaucoma testing and are limited to 1 routine vision exam per policy year. A referral from UA Campus Health is not required for the Adult Routine Vision Exam. You will have a $25 office visit copay responsibility. Note: The policy does not provide a benefit for lenses, frames, or contacts.

- Once you have found a participating provider, make your appointment and inform them you have the UA Student Health Insurance Plan administered by UnitedHealthcare StudentResources (UHCSR). Since the routine vision exam benefit falls under a medical policy, the provider’s office will need to call UHCSR at 1-866-654-7445 to verify your insurance/benefit information.

- Pediatric Vision Care Members can find a list of participating network vision providers by calling the provider locator service at 1-800-839-3242 or by visiting myuhcvision.com. On the website, Pediatric Vision Care Members can print a personal vision ID card. Note: Pediatric vision ID cards are not necessary if you see a participating vision provider.
