1. Using Your ABOR Student Health Insurance Plan

You have broad access to care in the Phoenix area. 

Good News: No Referral Needed 

Because you are located more than 25 miles from Campus Health in Tucson, you: 

  • DO NOT need a referral to seek care in Phoenix
  • Can go directly to in-network providers 

With the ABOR Student Health Insurance Plan, you can use in-network

  • Urgent care centers 
  • Primary care providers 
  • Specialists  
  • Hospitals in the Phoenix metro area 
  • $0 Medical and Mental Health Telehealth Services through HealthiestYou

Tip: Always confirm providers are in-network to avoid unexpected costs.

2. Using Other Insurance

If you are covered under another insurance plan (such as a marketplace plan or a coverage under a parent’s plan), you can access care directly in the Phoenix community. 

What to do

  • Check your insurance plan’s provider network  
  • Confirm whether your chosen provider is in-network  
  • Bring your insurance card to all appointments

  • Coverage, referrals, and costs will depend on your specific plan  
  • Some plans may require referrals or prior authorizations

3. ASU Health Services (Reciprocity Option)

Through a partnership with Arizona State University, you have the option of accessing care at ASU Health Services 

What to do: 

  • Call ASU Health Services at 480-965-3349 to schedule an appointment 
  • Let them know: 
  • You are a University of Arizona student 
  • You are part of the College of Medicine – Phoenix program 
  • You are eligible to be seen under the tri-university reciprocity agreement 

Important Tips: 

  • Be clear about your student status and campus location 
  • Bring your CatCard (or proof of enrollment) and insurance information

1. Decide where to go

  • Local in-network provider - or-  ASU Student Health (reciprocity)

2. Bring the right information

  • Student ID
  • Insurance card
  • Credit card for payment

3. Confirm coverage

  • To verify whether a provider is in-network, contact your insurance or use your provider search tool. If you have ABOR SHIP, visit www.uhcsr.com/arizona and select Find Providers
  • Remind the provider that referrals are not needed in Phoenix if you are on the UA Student Health Insurance Plan

ASU Health Services will bill your insurance carrier If your insurance carrier is not on this list, we advise you to contact them to receive their guidelines for out of network coverage. You may also request an itemized statement for you to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. You should be familiar with the rule of your insurance to receive the best benefit. Most HMO plans have very specific rules about who and where you can be seen, usually only with your selected primary care provider (We are not able to bill to all versions of the following plans).

Some labs may be sent out to Sonora Quest Labs or Labcorp. Please check with your plan to determine if these labs are in your network.

Additional ABOR Student Health Insurance Resources & Benefits

  • HealthiestYou – Students insured by UHCSR have access to free Mental Health and General Medicine telehealth services through the HealthiestYou website or mobile app. Login to your UHCSR member account to view your benefits or visit www.uhcsr.com/hycounseling for more information.
  • UHCSR Student Assist – Students can receive confidential assistance with personal issues and crises. Services include mediation, legal and financial help, self care, and 24/7 crisis support. The toll-free Student Assist phone number is available in your UHCSR member account under My Benefits (then click on "Additional Benefits").
  • How to Read an EOB – Learn how to read your UHCSR Explanation on Benefits (EOB). EOBs are documents from the insurance carrier that outline how services were covered and if there is a patient responsibility. EOBs are available through your UHCSR member account under My Claims.
  • How to Submit a Claim – Did you visit an out-of-network provider or pick up a prescription from the pharmacy without providing your insurance information? You can submit medical and prescription claims to UHCSR through your member account.
