Campus Health provides a Student Health Alcohol & Drug Education (SHADE) program for students who are in violation of alcohol and marijuana policies at the UA. You may be referred to a class by the Dean of Students or Housing & Residential Life to fulfill your sanction; if you have a different referral source, please contact our office at 520-621-5700 prior to starting class.
Please note: The Alcohol SHADE class consists of 3 sessions and the Marijuana SHADE class consists of 2 sessions. You may only register for one of the following SHADE classes. If you have scheduling conflicts or problems registering on the website, please call Campus Health at 520-621-5700
Alcohol SHADE Classes

SHADE Diversion Classes
Alcohol
In the alcohol SHADE class, students are taught:
- How to estimate the number of standard drinks contained in the beverages they consume
- How to calculate their own blood alcohol concentration
- The impact of alcohol on social/emotional relationships and academic performance
- Strategies to plan consumption
- How to recognize when it is time to stop drinking
Students also have the opportunity to request additional assistance through individual consultations with professional staff.
Cannabis
In the cannabis SHADE class, students are taught:
- Pros and cons of cannabis consumption and over-consumption
- Strategies to plan
- Critical thinking skills regarding a sensation v. connection approach
- Impact of cannabis on social/emotional relationships and academic performance
- Effects of cannabis consumption on brain development
Students also have the opportunity to request additional assistance through individual consultations with professional staff.

Class Fees
The following fees are posted to your Bursar's account:
- $50 SHADE class fee
- $50 fee for unexcused absence or no-show (if you are late or do not show up for class, you will need to reschedule and will be charged an additional $50)
Note: Students failing to complete eCHECKUP TO GO as spelled out in the memo from Campus Health will be assessed a $50 penalty if referred for an alcohol violation.
