Workshops are a new and exciting offering from CAPS! At CAPS, we believe in offering the right resources to the right student at the right time. We do this by building customized care plans for every client—matching a client’s needs with the best treatments available.
Workshops are designed to give students the tools they need to overcome their problems. We currently offer two workshops (more coming soon!), each comprised of 3 sessions (provided once per week) of 50 minutes each. Each workshop comes with a student workbook that will allow you to practice your new skills between sessions. To get started in a workshop, pre-schedule or “walk-in” for triage. If you are already connected to CAPS services, just let your counselor know that you are interested.
A student may attend more than one workshop and you may go through each workshop as many times as you like. To inquire about our workshops you may call CAPS (520) 621-3334 or simply speak to your counselor. To get the complete experience, students must come to each session on time. There is a one time $30 fee charged at the first workshop. This includes three 50 minute sessions and the option to reassess your needs at completion of the workshop series. Join us if you want to learn important life skills that carry you through difficult times. CAPS Cares. We’re here to help.
CAPS Workshop Offerings
RIO, developed by Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, has been utilized by university mental health services across the country. Recognition, Insight, Openness (RIO) focuses on building skills and creating flexibility in how you respond to distress. The three sessions are divided into content that builds upon itself. The sessions include modules dedicated to: (1) helping you gain a deeper understanding of your concerns, (2) creating flexibility in how you view and approach these issues, and (3) helping you take steps toward living with a wide range of emotions. By the end of the workshop, you will have a better sense of your personal values and how you want to focus your energy.
Peace in the Pandemic
We are currently offering Peace in the Pandemic for free!
Peace in the Pandemic was developed by the CAPS team in direct response to Pandemic related distress. COVID-19 has disrupted so many aspects of our lives including social and family relationships and academics. Constant worries about getting sick and general isolation have taken a toll on our individual and collective mental health. The Peace in the Pandemic workshop educates participants about neurophysiological responses to threat, mindfulness, and self-care, and provides guidance for how to keep moving forward when feeling overwhelmed and discouraged.
Special Peace in the Pandemic Series:
Election-Themed Peace in the Pandemic: Tuesdays 10/27, 11/3, and 11/10 at 1 pm and Tuesday, 11/3, 11/10, and 11/17 at 9 am
Grad Student PEace in the Pandemic: Wednesdays 10/21, 10/28, and 11/4 at 4 pm
